Capability Was Never the Problem

The two most powerful AI companies in the world just admitted something. Capability was never the problem. OpenAI and Anthropic both recently announced they’re partnering with, or outright launching, deployment companies. Sit with what that means. They’ve spent years building the most capable models ever created. And they just conceded, publicly, that the model isn’t the bottleneck. Getting it into your actual work is. So they’re coming to find the workflows themselves. Here’s the part you should care about as a leader. The economics are shifting. Today most companies pay per seat. That’s moving to per token. You pay for what AI actually does. When that happens, the question changes. Not “are we experimenting?” Not “did we run a pilot?” Real ROI. Tied to real work. And there’s only one way to get it. Find a workflow that creates value. Rewire it with assistive or agentic AI. Measure what changes. That’s the whole secret. Do it with your people, not to them. That’s the difference between adoption and resistance. We’ve been saying this since 2023. It’s what we do in every room we sit in with leaders. It’s also why most AI content feels useless to you right now. It’s selling models and tools. Not the workflow integration that makes any of it worth anything. More on that very soon. Matt |
