September : The Month To Reset

Next week, we are into September.

The kids go back to school.Your clients reappear after a summer lull.The calendar flips both literally and mentally.

The air sharpens.The pace quickens.And suddenly… everyone’s ready to get serious again.

I’ve seen this pattern for years.

For founder-led businesses, September is the most strategic month of the year because it gives you something you rarely get….a clean slate with enough time to still make this year matter.

Here’s what I tell my clients to do every September:

1. Treat it like a mid-year reset - because that’s what it is

You’ve got four months left in the year.

That’s:

→ Enough time to hit a revenue goal.

→ Enough time to fix a broken system.

→ Enough time to re-centre your team on what matters most.

But only if you take control now.

Most businesses drift through Q4 hoping to “finish strong.”

What they need is a focused recommitment - not panic, but a plan built on precision.

Ask yourself:

• What hasn’t worked this year—and what’s still fixable?

• What client segments or offers are draining energy instead of driving profit? Hint: if you can’t currently calculate your gross margin per week, you should make that your mission.

• What decisions are you putting off because you’re too scared to look under the hood?

Make the list.

Make the plan.

Execute.

What’s the lever that, if pulled now, would make the next 12 months radically better?

You don’t need a New Year’s resolution.

You need a Q4 that’s worth showing up for.

And it starts now.
